STYLE, my word for 2012

With the start of a new year comes new ambitions, aspirations and dreams ... thus after reading about people choosing a word for the year I too chose a word :

After really committing myself to painting and finding that I do have some talent for it (not to mention loving it), I want to find MY style.

So this word has been a big topic for me but, "What is Style?"

In all honesty I'm not sure exactly how to define it in terms of art

It seems that it can be cute and quaint

Style Can be LOUD

Or subtle enough to keep your lips sealed

It might even make you ponder

We could probably talk about it all day

But I'm chomping at the bit

Before it slips between my fingers

I need to get a grip, find my true artistic self

So before the year is over I can say:
I GOT STYLE!

I am really working on stretching myself and identifying what is in my heart and soul that needs to get out. I'm   starting to read "The Artist's Way" and am also taking a couple of classes this year ... I feel very strongly that this is the year I define/grow artistically and never again put this part of my life on the back burner.  Woot-Woot for 2012 and for Style!

What are YOUR plans for the coming year? Do you have a word?

  1. HI there. I just started The Artist's Way last night, and I did my first morning pages this morning. Once again, I'm like WOW we have so many similarities! My word of the year is Transformation and it applies to me as a whole. I have a lot of much from the past to just let go of. But as a painter this year is so similar for me. I've signed up for two or three painting courses and am just like you, intending this year to be about finding my own unique style and voice. I love the scrabble tiles idea. cuteness.

  3. What a great post! I loved the picture series and think you definitely have no problem with style :) My word is imagine, and I signed up for Life Book from Tam Laporte this year to try to encourage me to actually let go of being a perfectionist and just do some art-good, bad, and everything in between. Linking up to you on my blog :)

  4. Jessica the similarities between us do seem to be growing that is for sure!!
I came up with the tile idea when I was looking for a simple picture with the word style in it, but everything I found was too fancy.
I then remember we had the game scrabble and after some elbow nudging my hubby agreed to take pictures. I didn't know what I was going to say in my blog until after I had all the pictures done ... my hubby liked it too. I would like to do more blogs like this, but they are time consuming!
I think Life Book sounds like a cool class, I just could not commit to a whole year. I am going to be taking two classes so far, one this summer and another starting in the spring.
Biomouse, thanks for stopping by and please do check in again :)
